Women Now for Development

Who we are:

Women Now for Development” is a Syrian non-governmental organisation founded on June 23, 2012, in Paris, France, by Samar Yazbek, a Syrian writer and journalist. Women Now for Development began in 2012 by launching a series of small projects that supported ten families. The idea for the organisation was born in northern Syria during a time of chaos and war, long before its establishment in France. Samar Yazbek created “Women Now” after meeting and working with various women’s groups inside Syria. Through her discussions with these groups, Yazbek saw the urgent need to support their empowering missions in various forms.

What we do:

Our mission is to launch programs led by Syrian women to protect Syrian women and girls from various social and economic backgrounds, and empower women to find their political voice and participate in building a new peaceful Syria that respects and protects the equal rights of all its citizens
